Haydn – Quartet Op.76 No.2
Janáček – Quartet No. 1 (The Kreutzer Sonata)
Debussy – Quartet
Fast becoming one of the UK’s leading quartets, the Gildas Quartet has won five-star reviews for their stylish, intense and committed performances. Passionate exponents of a diverse and varied repertoire, they have commissioned and given many premières alongside their commitment to classic repertoire: their groundbreaking series of First Nights, Last Rights has put together newly commissioned works with final quartets from the quartet canon. For this concert they bring us exquisitely crafted music by the father of the string quartet, Haydn, alongside the dramatic intensity of Janàček’s Tolstoy-inspired first quartet. Debussy’s only quartet is an early masterpiece and brings the widest variety of sound and texture to the four strings with a masterly command of architecture and sound ranging from delicate subtlety to ravishing grandeur.
