Gonçalo Maia Caetano is an internationally acclaimed Portuguese classical guitarist, recognised for his expressive musicality, refined technique, and versatility across genres. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, he completed his Advanced Diploma under Professor Michael Lewin, having previously earned a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours and a Master of Arts with Distinction and the prestigious DipRAM—awarded for an exceptional final recital.

He has performed extensively across Europe, with appearances in major venues such as King’s Place in London and the Wiener Saal at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, captivating audiences in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, and the United Kingdom. His artistry has earned him numerous accolades, including First Prize at The Prince’s Prize competition (2023), the Blyth Watson Guitar Concerto Prize (2021), and top prizes at the Ivor Mairants, Pleven, Valencia, and Guimarães International Guitar Competitions. In 2024, he was awarded Second Prize at the Gallery of Guitars Competition in Scotland and again at the Lagoa Guitar Festival in the chamber music category as part of his ensemble, Volt Duo.

A committed and inquisitive artist, Gonçalo has refined his craft through masterclasses with many of the world’s foremost guitarists, including David Russell, Aniello Desiderio, Fabio Zanon, Roland Dyens, and Lukasz Kuropaczewski. His musical curiosity extends beyond the classical tradition; he is equally active in jazz, having pursued a second study in Jazz Guitar at the Royal Academy. He leads his own jazz project, Maia, and performs as bassist with the Phemo Quartet, with whom he appeared at London’s Vortex Jazz Club and is set to release the group’s debut album Anti-Revelation.
